Last day of June - Last week day of break

Filed under: General — Treah at 9:54 pm on Friday, June 30, 2006

I have been on break for 2 weeks and it has been exactly the break I have needed. I got my trips to NY and VT last week and this week I came to my parent’s house to relax. I restarted WW this week which has been great, I can not believe I fell off the wagon for so long. Back at it though, it is still a fixable gain. I have relaxed, done some sewing and cooking.

I have been working on a quilt top since about Feb. 2006. I was going to make it full size but I did not like the lack of contrasting fabric (love the fabric though) so I decided it would look better as a quilt to cozy under with a book on the couch so now it is a twin sized quilt. I have to add a 6 inch boarder but after that it will be ready to be sandwiched and quilted.

After finishing that top (I do not have the boarder fabric yet) I decided to put the leftovers into a table runner. Here is the beginning of that. Not sure what will happen to this tablerunner yet but I like it.

Another thing I tried today was freezer paper stencils. It was fun but sort of hard work cutting out the stencils. The results are wonderful though. I think it will be a technique I will use quite a bit. I do not have picture of the results from that.

Tonight I planned dinner around a weight watcher dip from the website. Feta and Spinach Dip. I had my dad grill chicken that was marinaded in a lime dressing and then had tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and green pepper cut up. We then put the chicken and toppings on a low fat tortilla. It was excellant. We also had salad from the garden. The feta and spinach dip was also made with spinach from the garden. I wish I had time for this life all the time!

Back at it ..

Weight Watchers that is. I finally got fed up. I ate as I pleased last week and did not gain weight (no real snacking going on) but I know that now that I am back home I will start snacking and go up even farther. She scale was not a pretty number. Not at all. But it was so easy for me the first time around so I just have to get back into that mindset (and not slide back once I get there.) I kept the weight off well for a year without too much work but then I started 3rd year of medical school. I rewarded all my hardwork during the day with food. Got to not let that happen again. On a happy note, I stayed in points today without trouble and I made it to the gym for 3.5 activity points. I will save those up since I am meeting a friend for lunch or dinner next sunday.

Today was a fun day. I spent lots of money. It was all birthday money though. I got Denyse Schmidt’s quilt book, a crewl book (it was pretty), the Modern Quilting book and a hiking in WV book. I also bought 2 pairs of Clark brand shoes. I was going to buy both pairs online and made myself a wishlist but decided to go to the mall and try clarks on again to make sure on size and when I got there one pair of the ones on my wishlist was on sale for $30 so that was a no brainer. I then had $70 left so I spent all 70 on a pair I put on my wishlist as a dream pair (in brown) that I would not ever buy. I can not wait to see them when they get here.

We picked Vandy up last night from the kennel. She has slept since then. Literally gets up from her crate and moves to a random spot or her bed and collapses again to sleep. Kinda of quiet with her doing that. We were going to go hiking on some new trails in town but it was pouring rain. I guess she needs this rest anyways. We are guessing that she did not sleep at the kennel.

Vermont is Fun

So we have spent the last 3 days in Vermont. I have gotten to do so much that I was tired by 7 tonight. Too much fun!! Today was my parents in laws company picnic party. We went there and met a lot of people I had only heard about. It was at a beautiful park, Button Bay State Park. After this we went to my husband’s aunt’s farm where she was hosting a horse show. It was interesting. I had never seen anything like it. So neat. We then got to see her two new baby horses. They are adorable.

Yesterday we went to a festival on the lake where restraunts come and offer tastes of their food. Yumm. I ate a lot and then went shoping. Can’t beat that. They were offering balloon rides for free but we just enjoyed the sight of the balloon filling.

Another fun thing was going out and attemping to place a geocache in Vermont. Ended up not being approved but I did find another geocache and got to see a neat power generator dam thing. It was pretty neat.

Finished another table runner

I finished another table runner. I do not think the pictures do it justice. I think its prettier than the pictures show. Here it is.

Hummmmm, what should the next project be. I will still be working on finishing quilt (two actually) but I need another project to go with that. I have many things I want to try and make but I am stuck on these tablerunners. Still having lots of fun making them.

As for the good news. I honored psychiatry. This means I was in the top 8 students. Kinda wierd. I did this case book thing and I think that got me through the tests. YAY! Maybe this will help my quartile ranking. Who knows. Not a big deal at all if it doesn’t though.

Three adorable cousins …

These are my three cousins (sisters, can you tell) who live next door to my grandmother. I have been in New York for the past 3 days with my grandparents and soaking in the fun of my cousins growing up. They are so very SMART and very obviously cute. We took them on a geocaching adventure. We never found the box but I think that was ok with the smallest because she really wanted to keep her dollar store find which she picked to exchange in the box. While along the Erie Canal at a lock a boat was going through. We watched the boat raise in the lock and Justin and I gave them a little education on how it was working. They enjoyed watching and were even happier when the nice older couple on the boat waved while pulling away.

The next three days I will be in Vermont at my parents-in-laws house. We have a full fun schedule while here. Hopefully more pictures as the week goes along.

School news, I totally passed my 3rd year. This was the last year of horrible tests. Do not get me wrong. I still have tests but not every 8 weeks on the dot. The other thing is that my schedule is more geared to the field of medicine that I enjoy. I feel like I learn 100 times more if I am happy at school rather than when I hate the rotation. I enjoy learning more.

Friday - Red

Today was hopefully the last day of my third year of medical school. It went ok but boy do I think I could have flunked either of the tests. Not sure though. I always say that.
The good thing, today was my birthday and boy did I get some good stuff. New porch furniture, new GPS unit, Amazon gift card, money for anything. I think I have figured out 4 books to buy with my amazon gift card. I will save the money to buy fabric and things like that. I like having money I do not have to count to spend on fabric.

Todays color was red. I did not post this morning so this is a bit late. I hope this brick is more red brick than brown brick. I like this picture though.

Ok, I always said purple is my favorite color but I think blue is up there with purple. Look at the blue sky!

This morning has been lovely. Finished my run by 6:30 AM. Then made a 3 point (WW points) egg and toast breakfast which was just what I needed. Vandy needed the run. She just finished her breakfast and is back to laying down to rest. She is funny on these runs. There is a house in my neighborhood that is getting construction done to it and this dog has a sense of direction because she knows exactly where that house is and she does not want to go near it. I have to drag her by this house. Today a lady passed us around there walking and she probably thought I was an animal abuser making her run when she didn’t want to. After passing the house Vandy goes on her merry way and runs in front of me!

Color Week Day 1

Filed under: General — Treah at 5:37 pm on Monday, June 12, 2006

Lets see if I can do this. Knowing me I will get caught up due to the tests that I have coming up. This blog, Little Birds, is having a color week and it sounds fun to get some picture out there looking at them in a different way. Today the color is white.
