Test has now passed

Filed under: General — Treah at 10:27 pm on Monday, January 30, 2006

The horrible test has now passed. I am a little thrilled about that yet scared cause I didn’t know a lot. I think that is just how this med school thing is going for me. Anyways, I decided to take today off studying and did some quilting. I got most of the table runner quilted now. I just have to finish the two short ends and bind it. No pictures of new projects yet cause I am still working on that one.

On all of the craft blogs I read they are making these Softies. I wish I had a pattern to get myself going on them. I don’t know about trying to make one up without trying a pattern first. Maybe my library would have some book that has something similar. Even if its a bear pattern. Something to get me through one of them.

Vandy and I have been working on walking on a leash without pulling. It is going. That is about it. Just going. She seems to forget everything from the day before everyday. Its like we start fresh. Today we were headed to the field down the road to throw ball but with certain neighbors not locking their dog up and Vandy in the middle of important lessons I decided that it was not a good idea to pass that house. Also with her lessons it is VERY hard to try a longer distance cause I could find myself walking her longer than I have time to do (we stop every time she pulls. More excitement means more stopping.) We will try again on Wed.

Tomorrow is my call night. No quilting but who knows what excitement OB can bring me tomorrow. I really enjoy it (but don’t mistake that as excitement to stay at the hospital all night.) I do wish I could come home and sleep at night but its not possible in this field and I will survive that. I actually have fun once I am there doing it but I seem to dread call nights leading up to them.

I will leave you with a picture of Vandy.

Upcoming Test

Monday is the midterm practical and quiz for Ob/Gyn. Sounds AWFUL to me. I am no good at preparing for things like this now. I had to drive back to Morgantown from my rural today. I stopped for gas and had someone offer to trade me my jeep for his mustang. WHAT?! Well I would never go for something that weird. I am thinking that if he wants my jeep that there is something awful wrong with his mustang.

Back to the test. I flunk most midterms. I am AWFUL at them. Its like I turn stupid in the test. Its probably a mixture of not learning the amount I wish I had in the beginning (though I tried hard) and my extremely low self esteem about my knowledge base making me freak out during tests. I will never know.

Anyways, I have been stitching on my table runner. Pictures below.

Headache in Clinic

Filed under: General — Treah at 10:50 pm on Monday, January 23, 2006

Today I got one of those headaches again in clinic. I think I was overtired and hungry. My attending gave me a granola bar when he had one which helped my hunger but boy did my head start hurting. I didn’t get home till about 2 (which is actually VERY early for a med student) but I ate as soon as I got here and drank some caffeine and it seemed to go away.

I mostly studied from lunch on. I did sew one more strand into the table runner. I envy those who craft all the time (and sell their crafts which I know everyone thinks is not all its cut out to be.) I could study better I think if I had more time for crafting but there isn’t enough time for both so I don’t get much crafting in. I can tell you all about fetal positions, Leopold and endometriosis but my table runner sits unfinished. So sad. I made a paint picture of the next two I want to make. This along with the fabric I have at home for another quilt and 3 quilt patterns. I wont ever get all that don’t but I can wish. I wish I could work on sewing in my downtime at school cause I don’t study well with chaos around me so I would get more out of my time by putting that energy into crafting and then studying at home. Oh the wishes.

Another day of the table runner

Today I continued to work on the table runner. I have to take many breaks to study but I did get a lot of studying in this afternoon. I may finish quilting the runner in the next 2-3 days. I can then bind it next weekend when I take breaks from studying.

I had a fairly good day. Apart from studying about stages of pregnancy, STDs and teratomas I went to T.J. Max, quilted, and watched Erin Brockavich with my grandpa. I wish I had pictures to upload of the quilting but I seem to have left the connector thing for my camera at home (which I normally leave it in my bag) and can not upload anything. No pictures till Friday at least.

Crafty Day

Filed under: General — Treah at 11:06 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2006

Today was a wonderful break day. I will have to get back to the studying tomorrow. I woke up this morning without an alarm and then went on a 3 mile walk with my best friend from home. Then Had lunch with her at macados, yummm. After this I got to go to JoAnns with my mom. Now this is like a candy store to me. I spent a VERY long time picking out a project to do and then I spent even longer picking out fabrics. We had all the fabric picked out to make one and then I realized I wanted something different so I put everything back and started over.

I came home and I used the following link for the design of the tablerunner. I found this link with a little craft blog addiction I seem to have gained. I follow links off them over and over and end up at the neatest blogs. I wish they were my friends too. All the craft blog people seem to trade stuff. I told my mom I was jealous and she thinks that I don’t have the time for that stuff being in medical school. She is right.

Here is a picture of my table runner.

Exciting Week

Filed under: General — Treah at 8:54 pm on Friday, January 20, 2006

I have one week down in Charleston which was wonderful. Who knew I could possibly do that much and still get home by 3. Some days I start at 8 and others it is more like 7:15-7:30. Not bad. I did do some stuff around town since I have been there. Ok, not much but I did go to Panera one night to study and then I went to the mall to “walk” on another night. I also walked on my grandpa’s hill another night.

Mostly I have just been quilting when I wasn’t reading. I should post a picture of my quilt. Its pretty big. It is my first project like that and is taking me forever. I want to machine quilt it cause I like more instant finish than this but I am still enjoying it. This is an old picture. I have now quilted most of the center of it. Still a lot to do. Not sure what I was thinking making it this big. I’m not sure its large enough for our king bed but it may be dragging the floor on the double. Oh well. I like it anyways.

Quilt

This actually is not my first quilt. I made 3 before for wedding gifts for my mom, mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law.

More tomorrow I hope. I need to start keeping up with this more.

Moved to Charleston

I start working at a new site tomorrow. I hear it is fairly laid back and I can choose to do anything I want. I hope I can choose to do normal deliveries. I am not one for the operating room much. I like small procedures but not the large drawn out ones.

I went home for the day yesterday and worked on my quilt a lot. That was nice. I feel like its getting somewhere which is a huge plus. I also worked on a fabric envelope this weekend. My husband thinks I am nutz for doing such a thing but it was actually enjoyable to work on. It was easy too. I think the idea came from a Japanese craft book.

Today I have studied and went shopping. Pretty good day. We also ate at Applebees. I was of course not that good. Seems to be my normal thing now. I hope working near a mall gets me more exercise. I plan on going there some.

Labor and Delivery

Filed under: General — Treah at 8:10 pm on Friday, January 13, 2006

I finished Labor and Delivery today at home and will now have to go to my “rural” site to begin 2 more weeks of labor and delivery. I really enjoy half of it. I am not as into the surgical aspects of Ob/Gyn,though they are interesting, I absolutely love delivering. I hope I get to do that the rest of my life.

This week I have had 3 interviews to start my residency at WVU in Family Medicine. I have to still go to 2 more interviews. I hope I get it. Not only is it the perfect place for me to do Residency but I would be able to take on obstetrics to the degree I want to while doing Family Medicine. Meaning I could take care of the baby after the delivery and continue with the maternal care. This does sound ideal to me.

No more real news. I think I will just relax tonight with some craft stuff. I need to get Vandy a walk tomorrow cause we are working on no pull type walks. It is going slow considering Vandy is like the bad kid in class who punishment doesn’t mean anything to. I will get it through her sometime. Tonight she pulled while I was going down the steps and the leash came out of my hand. We proceeded to come back in the house. What a dog!

Started OB/Gyn

Filed under: General — Treah at 2:36 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2006

This week I started OB of my OB/Gyn clerkship. It has been fun and interesting. Next week I am still on OB and then a week later I start my “rural” rotation. Christmas and New Years came and passed quick. We were in Vermont and then for part of one week I went to New York to see my family. That was fun but I got a horrible stomach flu. Hopefully thats the only one I get this year.

No new crafting really. Back to school always kills that spirit a bit. Today I have worked a little on my quilt that I have been working on for a year. I really need to finish it. How long does this take a normal person? I bought a pattern for a new quilt and also a book full of about 16 quilt patterns that I like a lot of. AND I still have money to spend at keepsake quilting. I need to start figuring out how to do a little each day. Wish I could take it for down times at school but that may seem weird.

I am in another dilemma. I want a freezer for my basement but I want a stand up one, not a chest freezer. Anyways, I am about $100 off at least from getting the stand up one. So now I have to decide whether to buy a freezer or something else. I don’t know what else I want. Maybe a portable DVD player but I do have a laptop which plays though. Hard decisions.

Off to quilt, read and write a personal statement.
